Safeguarding Training

To keep our ministries and church as safe as possible the Southwark Diocese require us to complete Safeguarding Online Training. The level of training depends upon the role held.

Safeguarding Courses to Complete

Please read the information below to see which of the courses your role requires you to complete. Please contact the Safeguarding team or your ministry leader if you are unsure.

• Basic Awareness (1-1.5hrs) safeguarding training is a required course for anyone who holds any role at our church. All team members who serve on any rota are required to complete this course.

The below course are only required for certain roles…

• Foundation (1-1.5hrs) training is a required course only for those who work with unaccompanied children, vulnerable adults, plus Clergy, Church Wardens, PSOs, PCC Members, Licensed Lay Readers, SPAs and anyone else involved in the recruitment of employees and volunteers.

• Leadership training is a required course for anyone who is an Overseer of a ministry with unaccompanied children or vulnerable adults, plus Clergy, Church Wardens, PSOs, Licensed Lay Readers and SPAs. (Please contact Southwark Diocese to book.)

• Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse (1.5-2hrs) training is a required course for all PCC Members, Clergy, Licensed Lay Readers and SPAs, Youth Minister, Kids Minister & PSOs.

• Safer Recruitment and People Management (1.5-2hrs) training is a required course for all PCC Members, Clergy, Youth Minister, Kids Minister, PSOs and anyone else involved in the recruitment of employees and volunteers.

How to Register Online

These courses are online courses which you can access by registering on the Church of England Portal via the ‘Register Online’ button below. (Apart from the Leadership course, which needs to booked via the Southwark Diocese.)

When your registration has been confirmed you will be able to access the course. Each course takes around one hour or so; however you can log in and out at any time and pick up from where you left off.

When registering online:

  • Please select ‘Not part of a training institution’ when asked to select a training institution.

  • Please choose Southwark as your diocese (not London)

  • Please choose Southwark Cathedral as the cathedral we are involved with.

  • Include the full name and location of our church: St Thomas with St Stephen, Telford Park.

Certificates

Once you have completed the relevant course below you will be emailed a link to download your certificates. Please email the certificates to the Safeguarding Team and also to your Ministry Leader for our records. The certificate will be valid for 3 years and then you will need to refresh your safeguarding training again.
